A Deeper Commitment

Jesus was always challenging people, wherever they were on the continuum of commitment, to a deeper commitment to himself and to his followers. Whether he was standing on the side of a lake calling ruddy fisherman to his side ("Come follow me and you'll fish for people!") or challenging a young, wealthy ruler ("Sell all your possessions...then come follow me!"), Jesus invited all kinds of people to a deeper level of commitment. So, we, too, regularly challenge and invite people to a deeper level of commitment to Christ and to the Vineyard family. Wherever you are on the continuum -- newcomer, regular attender, member -- you are invited to take a step of faith to deeper commitment during our Giving Campaign this fall.

If you are relatively new to the church and want to hear more about who we are and why we are the way we are, we provide two opportunities for you to get more connected.  First, we provide a “Welcome to the Vineyard” Lunch on a quarterly basis.  Our next lunch is right after the service on Sept. 25th at the Inn at HillenVale, 1615 Yauger Rd. (this is a last minute change of location due to the size of the group).  The Welcome lunches are informal times to gather with others who are new to VCKC, to meet some of the leadership, and to hear a little bit of our story and opportunities for involvement.  If you are not connected to a home group and are pretty new to VCKC, please join us.  If you cannot be at the lunch, give us a call and we’d be glad to sit down and chat with you.

A second great opportunity for those who are new to Vineyard-style ministry is our “What is a Vineyard?” home group.  This 8-week group is designed for those people who want to better understand why we do what we do.  Visitors to VCKC quickly learn that we are not charismatic and we are not traditional.  So, what are we?  That’s what we spend our time answering in the home group.  We look at how the Vineyard compares to charismatic and traditional churches in areas like worship, healing, spiritual gifts like tongues and prophecy, and spiritual warfare.  This is a great group to attend especially if you have questions because EVERYONE is new to Vineyard-style ministry.  You’ll fit right in!  We begin on Thursday, Sept. 29, at 7:00 at the church office (311C West Gambier).

Now, if you are already a regular attender who has a pretty good idea of what makes a Vineyard a Vineyard AND you are not a member, then we request that you attend the Getting Connected Classes.  These classes are the exhaustive introduction to VCKC’s unique mission, vision, purpose, and priorities.  We want you to be informed about where we see the church moving, what we plan to do to get there, and why we do it that way.  We also discuss topics like financial giving, women’s ministry roles, and baptism.  After the class you will be challenged to consider membership at VCKC.  We’ll learn what we mean by “membership” and why we think it’s important for you to consider.  Whether you join the church or not is entirely your decision.  In any case, we want you to know about VCKC, so please make the effort to be there on Tuesdays, October 11 and 18, at 6:00 (dinner will be provided) at the Inn at HillenVale (1615 Yauger Rd.).  We will then welcome new members into the VCKC family on Sunday, October 23rd, during the Celebration Service.

Feel free to email me if you have questions: .  Also, all of these activities are listed on our website for your convenience: http://www.knoxvineyard.org

“Come follow me,” Jesus calls to each of us.  Wherever you are in your relationship with Jesus and your relationship with VCKC, you are invited to deeper levels of relationship and commitment.  There’s something for everyone!

Blessings,
Chris
