Poured Out Prayer

God is so good, isn't He? He has graciously poured out His grace and love on us in Jesus, and He pours out His Spirit on us and in us to empower us. We've been experiencing the truth of this on Sunday mornings and in our home groups during this fall's Giving Campaign, haven't we? Isn't it amazing to actually be experiencing God's poured out grace rather than just learning about it intellectually? I hope you are being encouraged and transformed as we experience His poured out grace together. I believe God wants to continue to pour Himself out on us this weekend as we seek Him in prayer.

We are quickly approaching our weekend of prayer, Friday, Oct. 7, and Saturday, Oct. 8.  We begin with a “Poured Out” Prayer Service at the new building (806 Harcourt Rd.) at 7:00 on Friday night.  The leadership has been planning and praying for this service, and we believe it promises to be a powerful time of worship, prayer, and filling of the Spirit.  We’ll gather at 7:00 and begin with worship, then move to a period of directed prayer, both for the church and its ministries as well as for one another as God’s ministers.  We’ll end, then, by wandering the building, inside and out, praying to God, asking for Him to use the space, and also hearing from God how He desires to minister in the space.  All are welcome to come.  Please don’t feel the pressure to be a professional pray-er...we’re all amateurs when it comes to the mystery of prayer!  (Remember to bring a folding chair if you’d like to sit.)

Then, after the service, we’ll begin our 24-hour prayer vigil at the church office (311C West Gambier Ave.).  I’m sure the concept of a prayer vigil is new to many of you, but believe me, it isn’t new to God, the Bible, or the historical church.  Jesus spent the night in prayer often and if we peal back the curtain of heaven, as Revelation does for us, we see that there is constant prayer (and praise) going before the Lord.  So, we join with Jesus and millions of others throughout history who have recognized that extended times of prayer are powerful and beneficial.

Here’s how it works.  When you come to the office for your half-hour shifts (as many as you’d like), there will be friendly leader-type person there to greet you and give you some simple directions.  You can pray with others in the larger room or by yourself in the smaller room; you can pray out loud or in silence; you can pray for stuff we suggest or stuff you believe God wants you to pray for.  What I’m saying is..it’s totally up to you (or up to God, right?).  And once again...you don’t have to be a professional pray-er to participate.  Just do it!  It’s simple and powerful.

Ok, so some of you have already signed up for time slots...great!  The rest of you can simply come when you are able.  I’ve listed the times (below) when it would help us best:
