Becoming the Kind of Worshiper that God Seeks

Sermon Audio from Sunday, January 16, 2005 — It's that time of year again, right? New Year's resolutions time! Beginning a new year at "day 1" just invites us to think about who we are and what our lives are like, doesn't it? So, it's appropriate that we as a church and as individuals take a look at what we are all about. We want to revisit our purpose, why God has formed us into a church. In so doing we will revisit our purpose as individuals in God's kingdom, why God has created you.

Visually speaking, we believe our purpose as a church and as individuals is illustrated with our "Discipleship Illustration": Worship, Fellowship, Ministry, Outreach all wrapped around the Disciple. This illustration will help us in our study over the next few weeks. We'll begin with the truth that God has formed us for the purpose of worshiping Him, then move on to the other purposes in the ensuing weeks. Part of our church vision statement reads, "We envision a church in which: 1) people are inspired to worship God with their whole selves, joyfully giving to Him all that He deserves - including their hearts, words, bodies, time, talent, and treasure, and 2) a church in which the Word and the Spirit are kept in equal balance, primarily experienced by the intelligent and practical teaching of the Word of God and the eager seeking of meaningful encounters with the Holy Spirit as governed by the Word."
