Sermon Audio from Sunday, September 4, 2005 — Destruction. Uncertainty. Helplessness. Difficulty. Desperation. Suffering. Flooding.
Unless you've been living in a cave for the last week, you recognize that these words refer to the tragedy in the Gulf Coast in the wake of Hurricane Katrina that destroyed much of New Orleans and Biloxi and other places. I can't imagine what it's like to be in the middle of that scene. I can't say for sure how I, a devoted Christian, would be feeling right now if I were in their shoes or how I would feel if I were a pastor in New Orleans. I don't know what it's like to walk with God through something like that. Walking with God, that's what we're learning to do this summer. We finish our series today, concluding it with another Old Testament character who walked with God. This man, Noah, experienced confusion, difficulty, and uncertainty and in this circumstance showed us what it looks like to walk with God. Noah was obedient to God in the most trying circumstances the world had ever seen. That's Noah's lesson for us: walking with God, at its core, means being obedient to God in all circumstances.
