Sermon Audio from Sunday, May 8, 2005 — We are celebrating motherhood today and so I want to take this time to acknowledge that the Spirit of truth has revealed to us in this day and age the truth that women are free to serve and minister, to lead and have authority, in the home and the church as well as the world at large. Now, I have a feeling that most, if not all, of us have heard a teaching or two that says that God has prescribed eternal roles for men and eternal roles for women that are different but equal. Jesus tells us that the Spirit is the Spirit of truth. So, as we begin our study of walking by the Spirit, we begin by trusting that truth is found when we follow the Spirit. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. You will know the truth and the truth will set you free. If we are to begin walking by the Spirit, we have to begin the journey trusting not in ourselves, not in our intellect, not in our experience, not in the world around us, but above and beyond those things, we trust in the Spirit. The Spirit alone leads us to the heart and mind of God, the ultimate truth. The journey begins with surrender. Trust Jesus with your life; trust his Spirit to guide you.
